Did You know....

Now's the Time to Register for EHR Incentive Programs and you don't have to have an EMR implemented yet!

Registration is open for the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs, administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Eligible health care providers and hospitals have the opportunity to receive significant incentive payments for adoption and meaningful use of certified EHRs.

Why Register Now?

Providers can get started on EHR adoption now with the help of financial incentives from the federal government.

  • Adopting and achieving meaningful use of EHRs takes time.
  • Begin participating in 2011 and 2012 to earn the maximum incentive.
  • These incentive programs will not always be available and financial penalties are scheduled to take effect in 2015.

EMR Timing

Timing isn't everything but it really helps when making an EMR go/no go decision. Even with all the incentives and momentum toward implementation, there are scenarios where waiting may make more sense. The key here is that you might wait, but you should still be laying the foundation and readying for the inevitability of getting an EMR for your practice.
Here are some factors to consider. How many of the providers in the practice truly support an EMR initiative? It's ok if it's not a majority but if there is only one, then that may throw up a red light. How ready is your IT infrastructure from network to desktop and from internet connectivity to wifi. Now is the time to get your IT house in order and one way to do that is to get some hardware specs from a few potential EMR vendors you may consider and compare that with your current environment. It may make sense to budget and implement that IT foundation so you aren't running two projects at once when it does come time to implement your EMR. EMR Costs Underestimated

According to a study by Accenture, most health delivery organizations underestimate the time and costs associated with implementing advanced electronic medical record (EMR) functions, including clinical order entry, nursing and physician documentation, clinical decision support, and bar-coding medications. Are Physicians using Social Media?

The fact that Facebook became the number one site destination on the internet in 2010 indicates that a lot of people, including physicians, are using social media.

The AMA has a policy on social media use.

Why does your hospital need an effective Physician Liaison Program?

Hospital administrators know if their physicians are unhappy. They also know that they are competing for patients with other hospitals in town and in the region. How can hospitals invest limited funds in something as fleeting as "keeping physicians happy"?

First, your facility might be doing things that are "physician satisfiers" but that are in such silos that no one knows about it except a narrow population that routinely accesses this service.

Who is at the table when a meeting is held to discuss physician satisfaction, retention, recruitment and ongoing engagement?

These are all areas where Integrity IT have focused our efforts in developing a proven approach to our Physician Liaison program.

Innovative Physician Liaison Program

Integrity IT, based in Lexington, KY since 2000, has taken a program developed by Joe Danaher and Phil Miller and is about to launch this new service beyond Central Kentucky.

Essentially this service is designed to assist Hospitals and Clinics with engaging not only their affiliated physicians, but equally important (and difficult to engage), the independent Referral Physicians.

The Integrity IT Physician Liaison Program combines proven techniques for engaging physicians and keeping them interested. Our new program will help you set-up a program of your own, provide measurement tools and even involve our team in ongoing support and management if needed.

Stay tuned for more exciting details in the coming days!
